Rutland, Vt. - The Spartans were nearly perfect against Sage on Thursday in Rutland, blanking the Gators 9-0 for their second win of the season. Castleton dropped just eight games in the nine matches, all of them coming in singles play.
Mike Glaser and Adam McCaffery led a concerted doubles effort. The pair set the tone at first doubles, earning an 8-0 win. The Spartans followed suit at the second and third flights, blanking the Gators across the board in doubles play.
In singles, Kyle Martin kept up his perfect record at the fourth flight, earning a 6-1, 6-0 win. Kevin Rosset earned his first collegiate win in singles play at the third flight, taking straight sets 6-1, 6-1. Glaser, McCaffery, Mike Divis, and Joshua Dower all took points in straight sets as the Spartans closed out a 9-0 sweep of the Gators.
Castleton improves to 2-1 on the season, and will return to action on Wednesday, March 26 when they host Norwich. The Spartans fell 5-4 in their season opener to the Cadets and will look to grab some revenge over their in-state rivals.
