Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine – Senior Kristy Pinkham put forth her best scoring effort of the season with a hat trick but it wasn't quite enough as Castleton fell 4-3 to Thomas in double overtime on Saturday afternoon.
Deadlocked after a full 70 minutes the teams played to a scoreless 15-minute overtime before Brittany Premo scored in the second overtime to lift the Terriers to the win and improve their record to 6-9 and 3-1 in the North Atlantic Conference. Castleton drops to 1-12 overall and 1-3 in the NAC with the loss.
The Terriers struck first in the 13th minute. Abigail Dunn made a drive towards the goal and put her shot past goalkeeper Jess Galatioto to give the Terriers the 1-0 lead.
Ten minutes later, Castleton tied it up as Haley Spittle found Pinkham off a penalty corner to even the score. In the 28th minute the two connected for another penalty corner goal. Spittle found Pinkham once more and she connected from the top of the penalty circle, to give the Spartans a 2-1 lead.
The Terriers came out strong in the second half, knotting the game 2-2 as Taylor Bergeron got past a Spartan defender and put it by goalkeeper Meeghan Doris.
Abigail Dunn helped give Thomas the 3-2 lead in the 46th minute on a penalty corner, passing it to Erin Milligan who fired a hard shot to the left side of the net.
In the 51st minute, Castleton notched the equalizer off another penalty corner as Pinkham completed the hat trick on an assist by Cassidy Auger to tie the game back up at three.
In the first overtime, Thomas was unable to take advantage of a five-minute yellow card on Castleton, as the Spartans held up defensively and stopped all Terrier opportunities. Additionally Abbie Charrier made a crucial save on a Castleton game-winning bid.
Still tied 3-3, the game went into a second overtime. With just over seven minutes into left, Brittany Premo broke away from the defense and put the game-winning shot by Doris for the win.
Thomas outshot Castleton 28-12 on the day, with 17 of their shots on goal. Thomas also held a 21-10 penalty corner advantage.
Charrier recorded four saves in goal for the Terriers, and Doris led the Spartans with 10 while playing 74 minutes of relieve.
