SCHENECTADY, NY- The Vermont State University Castleton field hockey opened its 2026 season at Union College on Tuesday afternoon. The Garnet Chargers won by the score of 7-0.

How It Happened
Union scored on its first shot of the game just over four minutes into the first quarter. The Garnet Chargers would go on to score twice more in the period to lead 3-0.
The second quarter started off with a save by Spartan goalkeeper Izabella Cosden (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area HS) and a defensive save by Jaedyn Roberson (Hoosick Falls, N.Y./Hoosick Fall Central) in the first 34 seconds. The Castleton defense staved off three penalty corners by the Garnet Chargers. Union scored at 21:55 to make it a 4-0 contest. Cosden came away with three stops later in the quarter to prevent Garnet Charger scoring opportunities.
Union scored once in the third quarter to go ahead 5-0. They would go on to tack on two more scores, with the final goal coming with two seconds remaining.
