Box Score 1

Bangor, Maine – Senior Taylor Lively tossed a no-hitter and faced just one batter over the minimum as Castleton shut out Lyndon 6-0 on Friday afternoon in the team's first game of the North Atlantic Conference Championship Tournament at the O'Keefe Softball Complex.

Lively didn't allow the ball out of the infield and struck out 13 of the 22 batters she faced. The only Hornet to reach made it to first on a dropped third strike in the second inning. Lively retired the next 16 batters to win her 12th game of the season as the Spartans improved to 17-19.

Castleton opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the second inning. Brittany Brayman led off with a single through the right side, bringing up Tori Fearon. Fearon reached first on a fielder's choice and advanced to third on a throwing error by the third baseman, allowing Brayman to come all the way home for the 1-0 lead.

The Spartans added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Each of the first three runners reached base before Chelsea Grady tripled to left center. Leah Van Buren, Fearon, and Stephanie Sylvester all scored on the play, and Ruby Bushey followed with an RBI groundout, scoring Grady to make it 5-0.

Castleton added its final run of the game in the bottom of the fifth as Sylvester reached first on a fielding error by the first baseman, scoring Fearon from second.

Katie Davis took the loss for the Hornets, allowing seven hits with five strikeouts and two walks.

Castleton now faces Husson at 4:00 pm, as the Eagles opened tournament play with a 6-0 win over Maine-Farmington.
