Rutland, Vt. - In a rematch of their season opener, the Spartans' men's tennis team fell to Norwich 5-4 in Rutland on Wednesday.
The Cadets hopped out to an early 2-1 lead when they took two of three doubles flights. Mike Glasser and Adam McCaffery fell 8-6 at the top flight, while Will Levine and Matt Trombly fell 9-8 at second doubles. Corey Kimball and Mike Divis earned the Spartans' sole doubles point at third doubles, earning an 8-1 win.
In singles, the Spartans grabbed wins at the third, fifth, and sixth flights. McCaffery earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Patrick Ogden, Zac Conlogue defeated Kristine Brammer 6-4, 6-2, and Corey Kimball earned a perfect 6-0, 6-0 victory over Gustavo Avila. After dropping his first set, Mike Glasser pushed to extend his match, forcing a second set tiebreaker, but couldn't push over the top, falling 7-5, 7-6 at second singles.
The Spartans fall to 4-2 on the season with the loss. They will take on Thomas on Saturday, Mar. 30 in a North Atlantic Conference clash.
