Troutville, Va. – The Spartans couldn't muster much offense on Saturday as they dropped a pair of contests, falling 9-0 to No. 16 Roanoke and then dropping a 5-0 decision to Mt. Aloysius.

In the opener Castleton gave up four runs in the bottom of the first. However, in the top of the second Brittany Brayman led off with a single and Tori Fearon followed with a one-out single to put two runners on. Unfortunately, they were stranded as each of the next two batters failed to reach base.

The Maroons added four more runs in the bottom of the second, including a two-run homer. Castleton managed hits in the third and fourth but couldn't plate a run as 16th-ranked Roanoke finished with the 9-1 victory by scoring once more in the fourth.

Emily Sweeney took the loss, going 4.0 innings and giving up eight earned runs while striking out a single batter. Four different players recorded hits for Castleton.

In the second game senior Taylor Lively kept Mt. Aloysius at bay through the first four innings. However, the Spartans offense was unable to get on base versus the Mounties' Kelsey Ikes.

Mt. Aloysius got on the board in the sixth, highlighted by a grand slam to take a 5-0 lead. Castleton failed to scored in its final two frames to finish with the 5-0 defeat.

Ikes finished the contest with a perfect game, not allowing a Castleton runner on base all game long. She struck out six batters and only allowed five balls out of the infield.

Lively took the loss, pitching 6.0 innings and giving up five earned runs and two walks while striking out eight batters.

Castleton returns to action on Saturday when the Spartans travel to face Skidmore for a doubleheader.
