Box Score KEENE, N.H. - The Castleton women's field hockey team ran into a tough Keene State squad on Thursday, falling to the Owls 6-0 at the Owl Athletic Complex.
Keene State College senior midfielder Alyce Ferenc (Rumney, N.H.) netted her first career hat trick on Thursday, including a pair of goals in the first 15 minutes to put the host squad up 2-0 early.
Keene State added two more before the halftime break, less than 30 seconds apart, as Elizabeth Coffin (Sugar Hill, N.H.) found the back of the cage. At the 34:26 mark Ferenc netted her third goal of the night, off a pass from freshman forward Marisa Lemoine (Berlin, N.H.) for the 4-0 lead.
KSC added two more just into the second half, as senior Niki Smith (Southwick, Mass.) and junior Kalin Billert (Center Conway, N.H.) each scored for the Owls 6-0 non-conference victory.
The Spartans were outshot 24-5 in the contest but played much stronger in the second half, totaling four penalty corners to Keen State's zero.
Castleton net minder Bridget Dusha (Greenwich, N.Y.) was pestered with shots all night finished the game with 10 saves in the losing effort. Caitlin Davino-Draper (Hanover, Mass.) and Amanda Davis (Hollis, N.H.) combined to shutout the Spartans as each tallied one save.
With the win the Owls improved to 3-1 on the season, while Castleton fell to 1-5 on the year.
The Spartans return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 21 when they host New England College at 4 p.m. in Spartan Stadium.
