Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine – Castleton State College dropped a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) softball doubleheader at Thomas College, losing the opener 5-4 in eight innings and getting shutout 7-0 in the nightcap.
Sarah Flore (Springfield, Vt.) put the Spartans on top 2-0 with RBI-singles in the first and third innings of the opener. The Terriers answered in the bottom half of the third when Mallorie Blakney (Fairfield, Maine) blasted a two-run triple to centerfield, plating Alexandra Kriegel (Winslow, Maine) and Lindsay Fry (Nantucket, Mass.).
Kristin Masessa (Montville, Maine) made it 4-3 with an RBI-single, but Castleton used three Terrier errors in the sixth to pull even.
Siobhan Whittemore (Springfield, Vt.) gave Castleton a 4-3 lead in the top of the eighth, but Kriegel answered with a two-run single to give the Terriers the 5-4 win in the bottom of the inning.
Jordan Kennedy (Detroit, Maine) styfled the Spartan offense in game two, tossing a complete-game three-hitter and striking out 10 in the win.
Samantha Moore (Etna, Maine) went 3-for-3 with a triple, a double and four RBI to lead the Terrier offense.
Caylee Fleury (Barre, Vt.) had two hits to lead Castleton.
