Box Score

CASTLETON, Vt. –– Castleton scored early and often on its way to a 7-0 victory over Johnson St. on a cold and rainy evening at Spartan Stadium.

Senior Jake Ferry (Warwick, R.I.) was honored before the night as the team's lone graduating senior and he made the most of his last home regular season contest, scoring his first two goals of the season. He was one three players to record a pair of goals on the evening.

Ferry opened the scoring just 6:11 into the contest as he one-timed home a pass by sophomore John Kendall (Springfield, Vt.) while standing on the left corner of the six.

The Spartans added to their lead at the 13:26 mark when junior Trevor Kotrady (No. Clarendon, Vt.) corralled a bouncing ball at the 18 and fired a shot past Badger keeper Sam Martin (Essex, Vt.) for the 2-0 advantage.

Junior Tanner LeCuyer made it 3-0 in the 23rd minute. He blasted a free kick from 30 yards out and Martin was unable to handle it as it went through his legs for LeCuyer's second goal of the season.

In the second half, Kotrady wasted little time in extending the Castleton lead. With just 4:49 gone in the period, the junior scored off his own rebound after Martin saved his first shot attempt.

The Spartans pushed their lead to 5-0 at the 53:44 mark on a goal by Kendall front right in front of the net. The sophomore added his fourth goal of the season just six minutes and a half minutes later off a nice feed from sophomore Spencer Dandurand (Colchester, Vt.).

Finally in the 64th minute freshman Dameon Young's (Fairfax, Vt.) fired a shot that was saved by Martin, but Ferry was there for the rebound to extend the Castleton advantage to seven.

Sophomore Nate Koenemann (Montpelier, Vt.) played the first half and made one stop for his ninth victory of the season. Freshman Travis Powers (Cornwall, N.Y.) saw his most extended time of the season and delivered with one save in a scoreless half of action.

Martin made 14 saves in net for the Badgers as they drop to 4-10-1 on the season and 1-7 in the North Atlantic Conference.

Castleton improves 9-5-1 overall and 6-1-1 in the NAC with the victory. The Spartans return to the field on Tuesday, Oct. 25 when they travel to play Colby-Sawyer at 3:30 p.m.
