Castleton sweeps conference double-header from Becker

Chicopee, MA -Castleton took a pair of mercy-rule wins from conference foe, Becker College 10-2 and 14-2 at Elms College on Saturday afternoon.

With the win Castleton improves to 2-4 overall and 2-2 in conference play. The Hawks are now 1-5 overall and 1-2 in NAC play.

The Spartans fell behind in the top of the first as Becker plated a pair of runs on four hits, off starter Meg Robitaille. The junior hurler would settle down and allow just two more hits over the final four innings to earn her first win of the season.

Castleton's offense struck for nine hits, and was the beneficiary of 11 walks by Becker pitching.

Carley Amedore went 2 for 3 with a double, three RBI and two runs scored to lead the way. Robitaille also added a double and a pair of RBI to held her own cause.

In the nightcap Angie Carpenter allowed single runs in the second and third innings, but allowed just four hits while striking out five to earn her first win of the season.

Once again Castleton benefited from some wild Hawk pitching as they combined to walk 14 batters in game two.

Laura Rogers and Alicia Zraunig reached base a combined seven times from the top two spots in the order, without the benefit of a hit. Combined the tandem scored four runs.

Rachel Dunn led the team with a pair of doubles and four RBI, to go along with two runs scored. Rachel Hunt also had a pait of hits, and reached base in all four of her at-bats, driving in two runs and scoring two more.

Carpenter added a three-run double in the nine-run third inning that broke the game open.
