Castleton sweeps Johnson State, 17-1, 8-1 in NAC action

Johnson, VT-The Castleton State College softball team has won nine out of their last ten contests and continue to roll down the stretch. The Spartans defeated Johnson State 17-1 in five innings and 8-1 in the nightcap to improve to 11-7 overall and 8-3 in conference play.

In the opener Castleton banged out 15 hits and rode Angie Carpenter's four-hitter to the mercy-rule victory. Carpenter finished with five strikeouts and one earned run, also leading the offense with two hits and four RBI.

Rachel Hunt also had a pair of hits and three RBI, while Allison Lamay added two hits and two RBI.

In the nightcap, Meg Robitaille tossed the complete-game, scattering seven hits while striking out four to earn the win.

Danielle Haley had three hits and scored a pair of runs, while Rachel Hunt and Whitney Grassley each had one hit and two RBI.
