PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Bella Gale and Lanza Bellomo were named Little East Conference Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 5. Gale was named Offensive Player of the Week, while Bellomo collected Rookie of the Week honors.

Gale and Bellomo helped the Spartans to a 2-1 record during a very busy week, highlighted by a 21-9 conference win over Rhode Island College on Saturday and a 19-11 nonconference victory over Elms College on Thursday.

Gale led the team offensively with 17 points on the week, tallying seven in each of the two victories. The sophomore recorded five goals and two assists against the Blazers, followed by six goals and one assist against the Anchorwomen. She scored seven special teams goals, including four on the man-up and three on the man-down. Gale also caused five turnovers and picked up eight ground balls.

Bellomo has wasted little time getting acclimated to the college game, posting a nine-point week on six goals and three assists. She led the team with 19 draw controls, ranked second with 11 ground balls, and finished third with five caused turnovers. The rookie currently ranks third in the conference in ground balls per game, averaging 4.38.

Gale, Bellomo, and the Spartans return to action at 5 p.m. Wednesday when they host LEC foe UMass Boston for their Grow the Game contest.
