CASTLETON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's lacrosse team handled the Thomas College Terriers on Sunday, handing them a 16-1 non-conference loss.

How it Happened
The first half of the opening quarter saw both teams working to establish themselves offensively, but Castleton broke through at 7:20 with help from
Renny Cota.
Halle Christian then extended the Spartans' advantage to two goals with a man-down score at 5:59. Thomas responded less than 30 seconds later with what would be its lone goal of the day, making it 2-1.
Castleton added three more goals in the first quarter, scored by Cota,
Megan Culp, and
Phoebe Loomis, and five more in the second quarter from Loomis (2), Cota, Christian, and
Taylor Gleeson to take a 10-1 lead into halftime.
Loomis initiated a running clock at 11:50 in the third quarter, pushing the goal differential to 10. Goals from Gale and
Taylor Tallmadge, along with another assist from Loomis, extended the lead to 13-1 heading into the final quarter.
Tallmadge opened the fourth-quarter scoring with a man-down goal assisted by Loomis.
Lanza Bellomo and Culp each added unassisted tallies to close out the 16-1 victory.
By the Numbers
• Loomis was an offensive force with a team-leading nine points on four goals and five assists. She also added five ground balls and two caused turnovers.
• Cota finished second on the team with two goals and two assists, while five Spartans recorded two points each: Culp, Gleeson, Tallmadge, Christian, and Gale.
• Bellomo led the defense with five caused turnovers and dominated the ground game with 14 ground balls. The rookie also added one goal and one draw control.
• In goal,
Gracie Hurlbut made two saves to secure her second win of the week and third of her career.
• The Spartans totaled 35 shots on goal.
