Spartans Close Regular Season with Second at Waterville Valley

WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's alpine skiing team took home second place in giant slalom yesterday afternoon at Waterville Valley Resort.

First-year Eliza Mullen earned her first collegiate career victory, posting a two-run time of 2:10.85. After sitting second following the first run, Mullen posted the fastest second run to move into first. It marked the fifth win by a Castleton skier this season, setting a program record.  
 
Elisabeth Worster narrowly missed the podium, finishing fourth in 2:14.46. Makenna Price placed 10th with a time of 2:15.43, while Karleigh Hollister finished 11th at 2:15.85. Caitlyn Bumpers followed in 13th with a time of 2:17.02.

In the team standings, Castleton posted a combined time of 6:40.74 to place second overall. Babson College won the event at 6:39.84, with Clarkson finishing third in 7:01.33.

Despite not competing in the race, Andrea Rodriguez and Emilie Stene shared the USCSA MacConnell Division individual season title. Eva Young finished the regular season atop the giant slalom standings, while Worster led the slalom season standings. Mullen closed the season ranked seventh individually, with Price (15th), Hollister (17th) and Bumpers (21st) also earning top-25 finishes in the overall standings.

The Spartans head to Sugarloaf on Saturday, February 14 for the USCSA Eastern Regional Championships, with giant slalom on day one and slalom on day two (February 15).
