QUEENSBURY, N.Y. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's alpine skiing team turned in a dominant performance Saturday, sweeping the top five and capturing first place as a team in giant slalom competition at West Mountain.
Eva Young led the Spartans with a wire-to-wire victory, posting a winning two-run time of 2:17.34. Young claimed her first collegiate win, captured both runs on the day, and became the fourth female Spartan to earn a victory this season.
Eliza Mullen followed with a season-best second-place finish in 2:19.81, while
Emilie Stene completed the podium sweep by placing third in 2:19.93.
Andrea Rodriguez surged into fourth place after sitting in ninth following the first run, recording the second fastest second run of the day to finish in 2:20.25.
Makenna Price rounded out Castleton's top five sweep with a season-best fifth place result in 2:20.63.
Elisabeth Worster finished 11
th with a time of 2:22.82, while
Karleigh Hollister and
Caitlyn Bumpers placed 13
th (2:24.80) and 14
th (2:25.65), respectively.
In the team standings, the Spartans claimed first place with a combined time of 6:57.08. Clarkson University finished second at 7:03.03, followed by Babson College in third at 7:11.47.
Senior Day will be celebrated tomorrow as the Spartans return to action for day two of giant slalom competition at West Mountain.
