Castleton Women Sweep Slalom, Giant Slalom for Second Straight Weekend

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's alpine skiing team continued their winning streak with team victories in both slalom and giant slalom at Whiteface Mountain over the weekend. 

Saturday
Andrea Rodriguez led the Spartans with a first-place finish in the individual slalom, posting a time of 1:34.05. She sat fourth after the first run before recording the fastest second run to claim her first victory of the season and fourth of her career. Elisabeth Worster followed closely in second with a time of 1:34.30, marking her fourth podium finish of the season after five races and leaving her in the lead of both the individual slalom standings for the USCSA MacConnell Division. Eva Young added a ninth-place finish for Castleton (1:37.94), while Ines Robres placed 19th (1:46.23) and Ellie Campbell finished 25th (1:57.19). 

Castleton captured the team title with a combined time of 4:46.29, finishing ahead of the University of Connecticut (4:49.60) in second and Babson College (4:54.26) in third to remain undefeated in slalom races this season. 

Sunday
Emilie Stene paced Castleton with a second-place finish in the giant slalom, clocking a time of 2:19.39. Rodriguez added another podium performance by finishing third in 2:20.74. Young placed seventh in 2:23.47, Eliza Mullen finished ninth in 2:24.63, and Makenna Price took 13th in 2:29.16. Caitlyn Bumpers placed 16th overall in 2:34.35 and Campbell rounded out the Spartans' results in 23rd. 

The Spartans earned their fifth team victory of the season and first in giant slalom with a combined time of 7:03.60, finishing ahead of Clarkson University (7:08.60) in second and Babson College (7:12.73) in third.

The Spartans will host giant slalom at West Mountain on Jan. 31.
