Women's Lacrosse Stumbles at Potsdam

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's lacrosse team fell to SUNY Potsdam on the road Monday afternoon, 19-3.

How It Happened
The Spartans faced an early challenge as the Bears came out strong, scoring nine straight goals before Castleton finally broke through late in the period as Hana Doria found the back of the net for her first collegiate goal, bringing the score to 6-1. Potsdam was able to extend its lead to 9-1 by the end of the first.

In the second quarter, the Bears continued their offensive attack, netting three more goals while shutting out Castleton to take a 12-1 lead into halftime.

The Spartans kept fighting in the second half, with Brianna Paul scoring an unassisted goal in the third quarter and Renny Cota adding another in the fourth. However, Potsdam maintained control of the game, adding seven more goals in the final two quarters to seal the 19-3 victory.

Doria was strong on both ends of the field as she led the defensive efforts with four caused turnovers and four ground balls. In goal, Katie Stager collected 11 saves.
 
What's Next
 The Spartans will kick off their Little East Conference slate on Saturday as they travel to take on UMass Dartmouth in a 12 p.m. contest.
