MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Vermont State University Castleton wrestling team got off to a strong start at the 2025 NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Championship on Saturday, with all 10 wrestlers advancing to the second day of competition, with nine wrestlers still in contention on the championship side of the bracket.
Through the conclusion of Saturday, the Spartans sit in second place with 97.5 team points trailing Johnson & Wales by two, with 99.5 team points. Coast Guards sits third with 81.5, and Williams College in fourth with 68.5. The host squad Wesleyan rounds out the top five with 63.5 points.
Gavin Bradley is set for the semifinals at 125 pounds after two dominant victories. Bradley, the fifth-ranked wrestler nationally, took down Christopher Colon of Williams College, 11-1 via major decision and Jabari Pinkney of Norwich via fall in 42 seconds. Bradley is set to face Jake Craig of Southern Maine on Sunday morning.
At 133 pounds,
Drew Marchese is locked in for the semifinals following a win via tech fall over Charlie Pavis of WPI, and a 4-3 win by decision over Max Martinez of Wesleyan. He is set to match up with Peyton Ellis of Johnson & Wales Sunday morning. Ellis is currently ranked second nationally by the NWCA.
James Rodriguez, the fifth-ranked wrestler in the nation, is through to the semifinals at 141 pounds, taking his first match 15-7 via tech fall over Dominic Moyer of Coast Guard. In his second match of the day, he earned a 13-4 victory via major decision over Ryan Kozdra of Springfield. Rodriguez is set to see Hayden Myers of Wesleyan when action resumes Sunday morning.
At 149 pounds,
Elijah Cyr has secured his place in the semifinals, after taking down James Calabrese of Bridgewater State via tech fall, and Caleb Seyfried of Williams College via major decision. He is set to face Colby Frost of Southern Maine when action gets underway Sunday morning. Frost is currently ranked first by the NWCA nationally.
Nathaniel Camiscioli is set for the semifinals at 157 pounds, after taking down Kaleb Pool of Southern Maine, 17-0. In his second match of the day, Camiscioli took down Lucien Perla of Springfield via tech fall. Camiscioli is set to see Zach Soda of New England College Sunday morning. Camiscioli is currently the 12th-ranked wrestler nationally.
At 174 pounds,
Connor Gregory has cemented his place in the semifinals following a win via decision in his first match of the day. In match two he earned a 20-7 win via major decision. Gregory, ranked 13th nationally, is set to face Nick Rogers of Springfield when action resumes Sunday morning.
Sampson Wilkins, currently ranked fifth in the nation, is locked in for the semifinals at 184 pounds, following two impressive wins. In match one of the day, he took down Nicholas Crotty of Trinity via tech fall, and in match two earned a 6-1 win by decision over Jaylen Hawkins of Western New England. Wilkins will see Tyler Miller of Plymouth State Sunday Morning.
At 197 pounds,
Haven Tatarek took down Ty Saeturn from Norwich in his first match of the day, 6-1 by decision. In match two Tatarek earned a thrilling double overtime victory over Aris Dashiell of Wesleyan. He is set to face Dylan Harr of Johnson & Wales Sunday morning in the semifinals. Harr is currently ranked eighth by the NWCA nationally, with Tatarek ranked 13th.
Rounding out the Spartans in the semifinals is
Evan Day at 285 pounds. With a 15-2 win by major decision, Day moved on to face Jayden Toppan of Roger Williams, taking him down via pin in 1:46. Day is set to see Adolfo Betancur from Johnson & Wales when competition resumes Sunday morning. Betancur is currently ranked 15th by the NWCA nationally, with Day ranked 12th.
Jashon Holmes is in the consolation half of the bracket at 165 pounds, after taking down Nathan Quinones of Bridgewater State via tech fall in his first match of the day. In the quarterfinals, Holmes fell via decision to Chase Anestis of Plymouth State but bounced back in his first consolation bout with a 17-2 win over Gordon Murray of Roger Williams. Holmes, the 12th-ranked wrestler nationally, is set to face Landon Kearns of Coast Guard in the consolation semifinals Sunday morning.
