CASTLETON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's hockey team is set to host its 16th annual Pink the Rink event in partnership with the Rutland Regional Medical Center's Foley Cancer Center on Friday, February 14 at 6 p.m. at Spartan Arena in Rutland.
The Spartans have hosted the event annually since the 2009-10 season. This year, the team looks to fund raise enough money to surpass $100,000 total funds raised.
"Pink the Rink has been a staple of Castleton Women's Hockey for over 15 years. It's a special relationship we have with the Foley Cancer Center and a great opportunity for us to give back to the community that gives us so much, and that we call home." said head hockey coach Tim McAuliffe. "What I think makes this event so special is that when you look at our roster, our staff, our alums, our fans, and everyone that's a part of Castleton Women's Hockey, you span the entire globe, and everyone involved has a personal connection to this cause."
"Rutland Regional appreciates the ongoing partnership with VTSU Castleton and collaboration with the women's hockey team lead by Coach Tim McAuliffe," says Traci Moore, Senior Director of Development & Community Relations at Rutland Regional Medical Center. "The time that the coaches, players, parents and volunteers put into the event each year is considerable, and we are grateful for their efforts."
The first 200 fans will receive a custom tee shirt sponsored by Foley Services in Rutland. Fans will also have the opportunity to purchase commemorative Pink the Rink tee shirts and participate in a raffle and bake sale at the event. The cost of admission for the game is $7 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for students as the Spartans take on Elmira College in a New England Hockey Conference battle. All revenue from ticket sales, basket raffles and a bake sale at the event will also be donated to the Foley Cancer Center.
"This cause is an opportunity every year for us to literally put our money where our mouth is and be part of something bigger than ourselves and bigger than the game. It fills me with so much pride to be part of something like this and I know our players feel the same way." said McAuliffe. "I can't thank RRMC, Traci Moore, and the Foley Cancer Center enough for their constant support and dedication to the cause, and I hope that together we can continue to fight this fight and give back to this great community."
The auction for game-worn jerseys will go live at 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 13. They can be found here. To learn more about the Foley Cancer Center, click here. For more information about the upcoming Pink the Rink, go to www.castletonsports.com or www.rrmc.org or call 802-747-3634.
