Tim McAuliffe enters his sixth season as the head coach of Spartan women's hockey in the 2025-26 campaign.
In his fifth season, McAuliffe led the women's ice hockey team to an 11–14–1 overall record and a 7–10–1 mark in the NEHC. The Spartans saw a 5-game win streak towards the end of the season with a win vs Keene State, two against Salem State, and two against New England College. The Spartans qualified for the NEHC Tournament, earning the No. 7 seed. They ultimately fell to second-seeded Elmira in the quarterfinal round.
The 2024-25 season came with multiple individual awards for the Spartans. Brooke Noble was named NEHC Rookie of the Week, providing 5 goals and 2 assists in a two-game sweep vs Albertus Magnus. Taylor Adams was named Player of the Week after her first hat trick and the game-winning goal over Worcester State. Victoria Bakopanos saw 2 Goalie of the Week awards this season and finished with Third Team All-Conference honors. Moa Carlson was named 2024-25 MVP, earning First Team All-Conference honors and selected to the NEHWA All-Star Team. She finished the season with a team-high 20 points off 11 goals and 9 assists.
In his fourth season, McAuliffe led the 2023-24 Spartans to an overall record of 11-13-2 and a conference record of 9-7-2. The Spartans made another appearance in the NEHC Tournament, exiting in the first round for the second year in a row. Under McAuliffe, Moa Carlsson was named to the All-NEHC Second Team, Kirsten DiCicco was named to the Third Team, as well as Katie Campoli. Carlsson was also selected to the NEHWA Division III Women's All-Star Team.
In his third season, McAuliffe led the 2022-23 Spartans to an overall record of 14-11-1 and a conference record of 11-7-0. The Spartans made an appearance in the NEHC Tournament before exiting in the first round. McAuliffe was named the New England Hockey Conference Coach of the year. Darby Palisi and Kirsten DiCicco earned All-NEHC Second Team recognition, while Meg Aiken earned All-Rookie Team honors.
The 2021-22 squad posted a 15-10-2 record with 11 conference wins, the program's best marks in six seasons. The Spartans reached the NEHC Championship game, shutting out No. 10 Norwich in the semifinals before falling to third-ranked Elmira. Fifth-year senior Courtney Gauthier rose into the program's career top-tens for points, goals, and assists in her final season. Senior Ryanne Mix became the seventh player in program history to earn a spot on the New England Hockey Writers Association All-Star Team following a 13-assist campaign. Gauthier and Mix earned All-NEHC honors under McAuliffe's leadership.
In year one, McAuliffe promptly guided Castleton to a season-opening victory before later leading the Spartans to a win over perrenial powerhouse Norwich, just the second win over the Cadets in the program's history. He finished his first season behind the bench with a 6-7-1 record in limited action due to COVID-19.
A 2013 graduate of Saint Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont, McAuliffe was a four-year letter-winner for the Purple Knights. Following his graduation, McAuliffe coached at the junior level, working as an assistant coach for the East Coast Wizards of the Eastern Hockey League at the Junior “A” level. Most recently, McAuliffe was an assistant coach for the Rutland High School boys ice hockey program, where he helped head coach Mike Anderson lead the team to the quarterfinals in 2020.
As a player, McAuliffe captained the Purple Knights for two seasons, and won multiple team awards during his time at St. Michael’s. He appeared in 82 games during his time at St. Michaels, notching eight goals and 12 assists for 20 career points. He was also a three-time member of the ECAC East All-Academic Team and a four-time Dean’s List honoree at SMC.
McAuliffe comes from a strong hockey background, with both his father and his sister playing at the collegiate level. His dad, Joe, played two years for Merrimack, while his sister was a four-year standout at Harvard, scoring more than 100 points while captaining the team her senior year.
He currently resides in Mendon with his wife, Ali.
