Wrestling Claims NEWA Futures Title

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Vermont State University Castleton wrestling team claimed the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Futures Tournament title for the second year in a row, with eight top-three finishers, four of them individual champions.
 
The Spartans clinched first, amassing 147 points just ahead of Coast Guard in second with 145. Johnson & Wales, Western New England, and WPI rounded out the top five. Six individuals faced off in their respective title matches, four in the third-place matches, and three in the fifth-place matches, with 13 place-winners overall.
 
Kaya Bogle notched first place at 133 pounds, with Tylik Epps doing the same at 141. Colby Celuck came out on top at 174 pounds, and Abbas Abdulrahman earned first in the heavyweight class. Desmond McLaughlin finished second at 174, falling to teammate Celuck in the finals, and Josh Negron nabbed second at 197 pounds.
 
Logan Frank was victorious in the third-place match at 184 pounds, as was Keonta Crawford at 285 pounds. Stone Farnsworth notched a fourth-place finish at 141 pounds, as did Corbin Maraia, falling to teammate Frank in the third-place match at 184. Elijah Farias notched a fourth-place finish at 131 pounds, Joseph Kennedy did the same at 157, and Cruz Henton rounded out the place-winners for the Spartans in sixth at 184.
 
Castleton is back in action next weekend for the NCAA Regionals hosted by Wesleyan University on Saturday and Sunday, March 1-2. The top three finishers from each weight class earn a spot at the 2025 NCAA Division III National Championships.
