CASTLETON, Vt. – Aidan Shufelt of the Vermont State University Castleton wrestling team earned the New England Wrestling Association's Rookie of the Week following a perfect 4-0 weekend at the Lycoming Invitational in his first outing as a Spartan.

He took home first-place at 133 pounds, earning 25 team points for Castleton. He opened the tournament with an 18-2 technical fall win over Jaydin Barreto of Misericordia, and then earned a 15-1 win via major decision against Talen Walton of Emmanuel College. In the semifinals, he secured a win over Akram Guliyev of Averett, pinning him in 53 seconds for his first career pin as a Spartan, as well as his fastest career pin. In the championship match, Shufelt took a win via a 16-1 tech fall over Jack Borowiek of Oneonta.

The team travels to Ithaca College for the Ithaca Invitational this weekend, November 7-8.
