LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's alpine skiing team received two top-five placements en route to a third-place finish in the USCSA National Championships' slalom race Thursday at Whiteface Mountain.
Petra Veljkovic landed in the runner-up spot using an elite two-run outing, clocking in at 1:46.24. Ginevra Trevisan had the quickest second heat among all racers, finishing at 1:47.19 to catapult from ninth to fourth place.
Ines Robres Peireto also contributed to the Spartans' team time, laying down a 1:57.41 performance to wind up 30th. Karleigh Hollister recorded a combined time of 2:00.89, placing inside the top half of the field at 43rd.
GS national champion Emilie Stene was second after the initial dash, but went out late in the final run.
VTSU Castleton's total time of 5:30.84 secured a podium finish as Babson (5:30.68) clipped the Spartans by 0.16 seconds. Rocky Mountain College collected the team victory at 5:21.01 after also winning Tuesday's GS contest.
The Spartans wrap up USCSA Nationals on Saturday, March 9 with the dual slalom.
