Women’s Alpine Sweeps Podium in Slalom, Bags Regional Championship

CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine – The Vermont State University Castleton women's alpine skiing team nabbed the top three positions in Sunday's slalom, winning its sixth consecutive SL title and cruising to first place overall at the USCSA Eastern Regional Championships.

Emilie Stene collected her seventh race win of the year thanks to a 1:36.20 combined time. Fellow sophomore Ginevra Trevisan clocked in at 1:36.74 to record a second-place finish. Petra Veljkovic wrapped up her big weekend with a time of 1:37.59 which ranked third. The Spartans got a top-ten outing from Karleigh Hollister (10th) as Ines Robres Peireto (21st) finished in the top half of the field, rounding out an impressive showing from VTSU Castleton.

The Spartans collected their sixth straight Eastern Regional SL victory using a 4:50.53 combined time. Joining Castleton on the podium were MacConnell Division foes Babson (4:58.89) and UConn (5:17.84).

The program punched its ticket for the USCSA National Championships held at Whiteface from March 4-9 in Lake Placid, N.Y.

Next weekend, the Spartans head up to the Middlebury Snow Bowl in Hancock, Vt. for NCAA Regionals. The carnival begins with a slalom race on Friday, February 23.
