HENNIKER, N.H. — The Vermont State University Castleton women's alpine skiing team finished the weekend strong as Ginevra Trevisan collected her first victory in a podium sweep on Sunday, clinching the top prize in MacConnell Division standings.
Saturday
Karleigh Hollister led the Spartan finishers on Day 1 with a 1:47.09 two-run time to place sixth. Ines Robres-Peireto came in 11th after clocking in at 1:49.23. Rounding out the squad with a 14th-place finish was Camille Jackson who crossed the line in 1:49.96.
Castleton barely missed the podium with a 5:26.28 combined time to take fourth place. Leading the way in team standings were Babson (5:08.54), UConn (5:23.65), and UMass (5:23.76).
Sunday
After stacking up third in the first run, Trevisan rallied in the next heat with a 48.91-second pass to total 1:38.96 and tally the sophomore's first collegiate win. She was joined on the podium by runner-up Emilie Stene, who was 0.05 seconds behind at 1:39.01. Petra Veljkovic finished the first race of her senior season, laying down a combined time of 1:39.54 after having the next-quickest time on the second run to attain third. Robres Peireto also nabbed a top-ten finish in seventh while Jackson concluded the weekend slate in 19th.
The Spartans commanded a healthy lead over the field with their 4:57.61 team time ahead of UConn (5:15.19) and Babson (5:13.85).
Castleton begins postseason action next weekend, traveling to Sugarloaf for the USCSA Eastern Regional Championship beginning on Saturday, February 17 with a slalom.
