No. 9 Wrestling Notches Top Spot at Ithaca Invitational

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Vermont State University Castleton Wrestling team took home first place at the Ithaca Invitational for the second year in a row, with four wrestlers finishing first in their respective weight classes Saturday afternoon.
 
The Spartans earned 193 team points to secure the first-place finish over No. 11 Johnson & Wales, who finished with 186.5 points. No. 22 Ithaca finished third with 151. 5 points, followed by Springfield with 140, and Pennsylvania College of Technology with 133.5 to round out the top five.
 
Elijah Cyr secured a first-place finish at 149 pounds, going 5-0 on the weekend. Cyr went up against Noah Hunt of Pennsylvania College of Technology winning 17-15 via decision. Sampson Wilkins went 5-0 on the weekend, securing his first-place finish with a 4-1 win via decision over Springfield's Myles Leonard at 184 pounds.
 
At 197 pounds, Josh Negron finished the weekend 5-0 winning via decision in the first-place match 11-7 against Casey Allen of Springfield. Evan Day went 5-0 on the weekend at 285 pounds, winning the first-place match 9-5 via decision over Norwich's Mason Sprinkel.
 
Gavin Bradley secured a second-place finish at 125 pounds, going 4-1 on the weekend. Bradley faced No. 11 Johnson & Wales Joziah Fry, falling via a major decision 18-8. At 157 pounds Nathaniel Camiscioli went 4-1 on the weekend, falling to No. 11 Johnson & Wales Hayden Brown via tiebreaker.
 
Drew Marchese (133), James Rodriguez (141), Jashon Holmes (165), Desmond McLaughlin (174), and Andrew Filip (197) finished third in their respective weight classes. Kaya Bogle (133), Syrus Colon (174), Haven Tatarek (197), and Abbas Abdulrahman (285) finished fourth in their respective weight classes. Rounding out the Spartans' top five finishers are Nicolas Balella (149), Connor Gregory (165), and Blake Chapman (174) taking home fifth place.
 
The Spartans return to action on Saturday, November 9 at the Rhode Island College Open at 9 a.m. and the Roger Williams Invitational at 9:30 a.m.
