Women’s Alpine Takes Top Spot in Night Slalom at UConn Carnival

CHARLEMONT, Mass. – Emilie Stene emerged victorious while Ginevra Trevisan dashed into the runner-up slot as the main catalysts in the Vermont State University Castleton women's alpine skiing team's night slalom triumph on Friday at Berkshire East Mountain Resort.

Stene laid down a 1:27.43 two-run time to score her second slalom victory of the year. Trevisan followed with a time of 1:27.78 after topping all skiers in the second run which she completed in 46.92 seconds. Ines Robres Peireto placed inside the top 10 with a 1:33.39 combined time that was good for ninth as Karleigh Hollister notched an 11th-place finish. Rounding out the Spartan team, Mia DiOrio placed 31st in her first collegiate race.

VTSU Castleton's 4:28.60 team time topped the leaderboard, marking the program's first win of the season in slalom action, ahead of Babson (4:34.82) and UMass (4:43.70).

Saturday's giant slalom race was halted and ultimately canceled due to inclement weather.

The program is back on the slopes when it hosts the Castleton Carnival which begins Saturday, February 3 at West Mountain.
