LAKE PLACID, N.Y. — The Vermont State University Castleton women's alpine skiing team saw Emilie Stene sweep the weekend with her third victory of the year, guiding the Spartans to second place in Saturday's giant slalom.
Stene held a two-second gap over the competition, dashing into the top slot with a 1:47.09 combined time. Fellow sophomore Karleigh Hollister earned a fifth-place finish thanks to her 1:51.52 performance. Camille Jackson (13th) landed in the top half of the field at 1:57.93 as Amanda Quiles came in 22nd to complete the Spartan effort.
VTSU Castleton clocked in at 5:36.54 as a team, narrowly trailing Babson (5:32.78) for a runner-up placement in the Clarkson Carnival finale.
The program heads off to Charlemont, Mass. on Friday, January 26 for the first of two slalom races at Berkshire East.
