Women's Alpine Opens Season with Third-Place Finishes at Proctor

ANDOVER, N.H. – Emilie Stene paced the Vermont State University Castleton women's alpine skiing team with a pair of top-two finishes including a Saturday victory as the Spartans opened their 2024 campaign at Proctor Ski Area this weekend.

Friday (Slalom)
The Norway-raised sophomore dashed into second place with a combined time of 1:45.26 after ripping down the course in 53:42 on the second run, the quickest of all MacConnell Division skiers. Three more Spartans finished in the top 20, led by Ines Robres Peireto who clocked in at 1:56.94. Camille Jackson came in 15th with a 1:57.09 two-run time while Amanda Quiles took 18th place.

VTSU Castleton posted a team time of 5:39.29 to stack up third behind Babson (5:24.33) and UConn (5:34.47).

Saturday (Slalom)
Skiers battled both the Proctor course and Mother Nature on Day Two as Stene emerged victorious with a 1:36.24 dash. Karleigh Hollister notched a 14th-place finish with her 1:46.01 combined time The Spartans also had strong outings from Robres Peireto (17th), Quiles (21st), and Jackson (24th) to collect another third-place team finish at 5:11.00.

The program heads to Whiteface Mountain on Friday, January 19 for a pair of giant slalom races at the Clarkson Carnival.
