CASTLETON, Vt. - Vermont State University Castleton rugby opened their season with a loss to NEC in a 7v7 matchup, 2-1.

NEC scored three TRY'S to take an early lead in the first match, 15-0. Saidi St. Andrews would go on to score late in the second half to get the first points for the Spartans on the season. NEC would go on to win the first match 15-5.

In the second match, it was all VTSU Castleton. First year Alexis MacLeod get the Spartans on the board early in the first half.  Halfway through the first half, Sarah Deschamp would charge through the Pilgrams defense and score her first TRY of the season. Andrews went on to score two more times, as the Spartans took game two, 20-5.

Within the first 20 seconds of the final match, Maddie Reynolds recieved the toss and went on to score for Castleton to get on the board first. NEC would then go on to score the next three TRY'S to end the game 17-5.

The Spartans will be back an action at a TBD date.
