PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Following another successful campaign that saw the Spartans tally their highest overall and conference win total since joining the Little East Conference in 2019, five members of the Castleton softball program received All-Conference Honors. Hannah Mosher, Olivia Joy, and Samera Rideout were all named to the First Team, while Alexandra Brouillette and Alexis Rogers earned spots on the All-Rookie team — Rideout was also named to the All-Rookie team.
Mosher built off a 2022 season that saw her land on the All-Conference Second Team and put together an even stronger year in 2023 en route to her first career First Team selection. Solidifying herself as one of the best hitters in the conference, Mosher had an other-worldly slash line of .374/.448/.661, leading her to a LEC-best 1.109 OPS. Her 43 hits, 31 runs, seven triples, and four home runs all paced the team, with the graduate student also tallying 17 RBIs primarily from the leadoff position.
Mosher took her game to the next level in the latter half of the season, going on an eight-game hit streak — registering multiple hits in six of those contests — before becoming the 13th player in program history to reach the 100-hit mark in her final game of the season against UMass Dartmouth.
Joy is a first-time honoree in her senior season, and secured a well-deserved spot on the First Team after a career year in the circle. Serving as a stabilizing force in a young Castleton pitching rotation, the senior led eligible pitchers with a 2.50 ERA across 95.1 innings — more than double the Spartans' next closest arm.
The Greenfield, Mass. native's nine wins were tied for the ninth most in a single season in program history, while her four shutouts were the fourth most in a single season. In the midst of a 10-game streak in which she allowed no more than two earned runs in each game, Joy's year was highlighted by a nine-inning, complete game shutout win over eventual LEC Champion UMass Dartmouth — a game the Spartans won just 1-0.
After an incredible freshman campaign, Rideout was named to both the First Team — the first player to do so in Castleton's four years since joining the LEC — as well as the All-Rookie Team. A veteran at the plate despite her age, Rideout led the Spartans in batting average (.378) and RBIs (26), while ranking second in hits (37), doubles (8), and home runs (2). The freshman had two separate seven-game hitting streaks and saved her best for last in the LEC playoffs, going 3-4 with a season-high three runs in a must-win game over Rhode Island College.
Serving as Castleton's right fielder and one of its go-to relief pitchers, Brouillette had an outstanding second half of the year en route to an All-Rookie selection. The freshman appeared in nine games in the circle, finishing with an ERA of 2.77, and despite pitching in just 17.2 innings placed third on the team with 16 strikeouts.
At the plate, Brouillette finished third on the team with a .368 batting average, coming alive at the midway point of the season. Starting with the team's series against Plymouth State, Brouillette registered multiple hits in seven of her last 14 games, garnering multiple Rookie of the Week accolades, and was the lone Spartan to secure a hit in each of Castleton's four playoff games.
The Spartans' final postseason honoree is Rogers, who earned a spot on the All-Rookie team after being a steady contributor for Castleton all season both at the plate and in the circle. The Queensbury, N.Y. native finished her rookie campaign with a .327 batting average, racking up 34 hits, seven doubles, and 15 RBIs in the middle of the batting order. Always a tough-out, Rogers finished fourth on the team in at-bats with 104, but struck out a team-low 10 times among eligible players.
In the circle, Rogers served as Castleton's No. 2 for much of the season, finishing second on the team in strikeouts with 30 across 42.2 innings. Her four wins and three complete games were the second most on the season, ending her freshman year with a 3.94 ERA.
The Spartans finished the 2023 season with a record of 20-16 with a 9-7 conference record and fell one game shy of reaching the LEC Championship, marking their strongest season to date since joining the LEC.
