MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Castleton University men's golf team moved up one place after posting a second-round score of 307 as a team at the 38th Duke Nelson Invitational hosted by Middlebury College at Ralph Mhyre Golf Course.
Castleton's score was its lowest single round as a team at the Duke Nelson Invitational in program history, and its two-day total of 631 was its lowest at the event as well. The 307 was also Castleton's lowest round as a team since the 2019 campaign.
Nick Ojala fired a second-round 74 to finish in a six-way tie for 22nd place in the 124-man field. He finished with a two-day total of 151 and moved up seven spots on the leaderboard from day one.
Brady Hathorn improved by five strokes on day two, shooting 77 to finish with a two-day score of 159 in a tie for 68th place.
Brandon Picard was third on the team and tied for 86th overall with a 162, carding a day-two 78—a six-stroke improvement over Saturday's round.
Andrew Stefura made the biggest move for Castleton, shooting 78 on Sunday after an opening-round 93. He finished with a two-day score of 171.
Jason Ryan rounded out the lineup with an 85 on Sunday, carding a two-day total of 166.
Hamilton's Ramon Aroca Gonzalez led the field individually with a two-under 69 on Sunday to finish the tournament at 140. RPI took the team title in a tight battle, shooting 590 to sneak past host Middlebury and Trinity (Conn.)—both of which shot 591.
Castleton is back in action Friday at Montague Golf Course for the Norwich Invitational.
