LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – Both
Annika Saunus and
Emily Greene finished in the top-half of the field as Castleton's women's nordic team competed in the 15-kilometer Classic at the United States Collegiate Skiing and Snowboarding Association (USCSA) National Championships.
Coming off her first national title Wednesday's Classic Sprint, Saunus led the way with a 12
th-place finish Friday, crossing the line with a time of 1:01:18.30.
Greene, who missed Wednesday's contest, crossed the line closely behind the freshman, finishing with a time of 1:05:02.00. The senior shaved over six minutes off of her time from two seasons ago, and has now placed in the top-15 in both events she has competed in.
St. Olaf took first place in the 15-kilometer with nine points. The University of Wyoming, Paul Smith's College, Cornell and Clarkson rounded out the top-five. The Spartans did not qualify as a team, only having two athletes racing, and will therefore be unable to compete in Saturday's Freestyle Team Sprint, meaning this is the end of their 2021-22 season.
Saunus concludes her first trip to the USCSA National Championships with a 10th-place finish overall with 38 points, highlighted by her first national title in the classic sprint.
