NORTH CREEK, N.Y. – The Castleton women's nordic ski team traveled to New York to take part in the ESCS Regional Championships Saturday and Sunday, with Annika Saunus and Emily Greene both earning top-3 finishes in the day's races.

Saunus got things started with a third-place finish in Saturday's 1.5K sprint. The freshman finished second in her quarterfinal round and third in her semi-final race to advance to the finals where she ran her best race of the day, crossing the line in third with a time of 5:03.7, just 0.6 seconds behind second-place finisher Dolcie Tanguay.

Greene earned a 13th-place finish in Saturday's sprint, but was unable to advance past the quarterfinals with her time of 5:43.7.

In Sunday's 7.5K, however, was where Green shined. After missing out on the semifinals of Saturday's race, the junior earned herself a spot on the podium Sunday by crossing the line in second with a time of 21:22. Also finishing in the top-10 was Saunus, who finished in sixth with a time of 22:35, rounding out a strong weekend at Regionals for the Spartans.

Castleton will get next weekend off before competing in the USCSA National Championships from Sunday, March 6 to Saturday, March 12.
