RIPTON, Vt. – The Castleton women's nordic team traveled in-state to compete in the Mansfield Divisional Championships this weekend, earning both top spots in Sunday's 15k.
 
The weekend kicked off with a 1.5k sprint relay, in which mixed teams we send three racers to complete a 4.5k sprint. The Spartans' second team consisted of Shawn Allen, Annika Saunus and Emily Greene, who earned a 14^th place finish with a time of 38:43. Pairing with Castleton's top team of Alex Williams, Antonio Mannino and Andrew Doherty who came in third, the Spartans wrapped up Day 1 in third with 24 points.
 
Sunday's 15k was where Castleton shined, with Greene and Saunus claiming the top two spots. Greene crossed the line in first with a time of 53:25, with Saunus finishing right behind her in second with a time of 54:09. This was the first time this season the women's team has earned the top two places in a race.
 
Next up for the Spartans is a trip to North Creek, N.Y. to compete in the ECSC Regional Championships Saturday, Feb. 19 and Sunday Feb. 20.
