QUEENSBURY, N.Y. – The Castleton University women's alpine ski team capped a perfect season on Sunday, making it a perfect 10-for-10 in MacConnell Division victories this season after the latest win in giant slalom at West Mountain.
The Spartans earn their fourth consecutive MacConnell Division title following the unbeaten season, defending their previous titles from 2018, 2019 and 2020. No MacConnell Division title was awarded in 2021 due to the pandemic. Castleton's time as a team Saturday was 5:55.44, five seconds faster than second-place Babson (6:00.79).
Karoline Rettenbacher posted a podium finish with a second-place result, clocking in at 1:58.16. She was in sixth place after an opening run time of 56.84 seconds, but posted the fastest second-run time at 1:01.32 to move onto the podium.
Tatiana Tobolka finished third overall at 1:58.41 after runs of 56.33 and 1:02.08.
Lena Soehnle was fifth at 1:58.87, finishing just behind Tobolka. Her first run was 56.72 and her second run was 1:02.15.
Petra Veljkovic (2:00.02) and
Birgit Kinneberg (2:00.33) finished top-10 in seventh and eighth place, respectively, while
Ashley LaCross' 2:03.31 and
Alexis Hollister's 2:04.60 placed them inside the top-20.
Grace Weisiger (2:05.12),
Camille Jackson (2:13.43) and
Matilda Gutke (2:13.92) rounded out Castleton's finishers.
The Spartans hit the slopes of Sugarloaf in Maine on Saturday for the start of the USCSA Eastern Regional Championships.
