NEWBURY, N.H. – The Castleton University women's ski team earned its sixth win in as many races on Sunday, topping the field in MacConnell Division giant slalom action at Mount Sunapee.
The Spartans clocked in at 6:28.70 as a team, beating out second-place Babson by less than two fill seconds. The Beavers logged a team time of 6:30.56.
The Spartans were led by
Lena Soehnle's third-place finish, as the senior posted a time of 2:08.35 that included the fastest second run of the day.
Karoline Rettenbacher was sixth overall at 2:09.94, followed by
Birgit Kinneberg in seventh at 2:10.41,
Tatiana Tobolka in ninth at 2:11.41 and
Petra Veljkovic in 10th at 2:11.65.
Ashley LaCross finished 11th overall with a time of 2:12.98, while
Grace Weisiger (2:16.10) and
Deena Jacunski (2:16.75) also finished inside the top-20.
Babson's Lauren Abdow was the individual winner at 2:07.45, followed by Brown's Maggie Beardsley in second at 2:07.67.
Castleton hosts a pair of races next weekend at West Mountain on February 5 and 6. Races begin at 9:30 a.m. each day.
