Women's Alpine Wins Again; Tobolka Tops Field Individually

HENNIKER, N.H. – The Castleton University women's alpine ski team raced its way to victory once again on Saturday, topping the field in MacConnell Division slalom action at Pat's Peak.
 
The Spartans posted a team time of 4:55.84, more than 10 seconds faster than second-place Babson's time of 5:06.80. UConn finished third at 5:17.86. The Spartans had the individual winner for the fourth time in five races this season, each time with a different Spartan topping the podium.
 
On Saturday it was rookie Tatiana Tobolka sitting atop the leaderboard, clocking in at 1:36.70 after runs of 48.69 and 48.01. Tobolka had the fastest time in both runs of the day. Karoline Rettenbacher was No. 2 in the standings with a time of 1:37.84, posting times of 49.12 and 48.72 for the Spartans. Birgit Kinneberg finished fourth at 1:41.30 after runs of 51.41 and 49.89.
 
Lena Soehnle logged a seventh-place finish for the Spartans with a time of 1:44.23, followed by Deena Jacunski in ninth place (1:44.64) and Ashley LaCross in 11th place (1:45.09). Matilda Gutke also finished top-15 with a time of 1:46.10. Alexis Hollister (1:49.34), Camille Jackson (1:49.93) and Grace Keane (1:51.77) were other Spartan notables.
 
Castleton races giant slalom on Sunday at Mount Sunapee to wrap up the weekend.
