LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – The Castleton University women's alpine ski team picked up its fourth straight win on Saturday, placing four racers in the top-six en route to a giant slalom victory.
Petra Veljkovic logged her first collegiate win in the race, claiming the top spot on the podium with a time of 1:47.14. She opened with a run of 54.01 before clocking in at 53.13 in her second run.
Lena Soehnle placed second, just six one-hundredths of a second behind Veljkovic at 1:47.20. Soehnle logged a first-run time of 54.13 before laying down the fastest second run of the day at 53.07.
Birgit Kinneberg finished fourth with a time of 1:48.67 after runs of 54.57 and 54.10.
Karoline Rettenbacher was sixth with a time of 1:49.16, posting runs of 55.02 and 54.14.
Deena Jacunski rounded out the Spartan notables in 15th place with a time of 1:55.58.
As a team, Castleton finished in 5:23.01, more than 12 seconds ahead of second-place Babson. The Beavers logged a time of 5:35.54, followed by Clarkson at 5:39.31.
Castleton is back in action next Saturday at Pat's Peak for a slalom race.
