Box Score NEW LONDON, N.H. – 110 minutes wasn't enough to decide a winner on Saturday afternoon, as the Castleton women's soccer team and Colby-Sawyer played to a 2-2 draw in double overtime.
The Spartans move to 1-5-3 with the tie, including a 0-1-1 mark in North Atlantic Conference action. Colby-Sawyer is now 1-5-1 overall and 0-1-1 in NAC play.
Bri DiPhilippo and Makenzi Bellando each tallied scores for the Spartans, while Shelby McLenithan and Eva Clark each had assists. Jessica Binkowski made five saves in the draw, including one save in the overtime periods.
For Colby-Sawyer, Lizzie Jorgensen and Rachel Quaye had the goals, while Corrie Hoyt and Abbie Sansoucy had assists. Sam Mitchell made three saves in goal for the Chargers.
Colby-Sawyer got out to the first lead, scoring in the 28th minute when Jorgensen took a pass over the top of the defense from Hoyt and flicked it past Binkowski to give the home squad a 1-0 lead.
Castleton answered out of the break, as McLenithan found DiPhilippo on a cross for an easy goal to even the score at 1-1 in the 59th minute. The Chargers came back with another goal of their own, as Quaye gave her team the lead once more in the 63rd minute when she finished a through ball from Sansoucy to make it a 2-1 game in favor of Colby-Sawyer.
The Spartans had and answer again, as Bellando finished a cross from Clark in the 64th minute—just 26 seconds after the Chargers' goal. The 2-2 score held through the whistle in regulation, sending the game to overtime. Neither side could get any offense in the overtime period, as the game between the two pre-season favorites ended in a draw.
Colby-Sawyer outshot Castleton 16-13 overall and 7-5 on goal in the contest. The Chargers also held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks, and committed 16 fouls to Castleton's eight.
The Spartans are back on the pitch on Tuesday when they host Lyndon at Spartan Stadium at 6:30 p.m.
