Women's Soccer Blanks Beavers on Senior Day

CASTLETON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's soccer team earned its second shutout in as many days as they took down Maine-Farmington 3-0 on senior day Sunday.

  • Senior Maggie McKearin opened the day for the Spartans just 53 seconds in, scoring on two quick passes from Chloe Green and Paige Cargill, giving Castleton a 1-0 lead.
  • The seniors continued to press the Beavers, as Becky Hannwacker found Emma Patrissi on a corner kick, giving the Spartans a 2-0 lead in the ninth minute.
  • Ella Drake capped the Spartans' explosive first half in the 40th minute, blasting a shot to the top corner for her first career goal in green and white.
  • The second half was quiet with no goals, but saw Emma Ezzo make two saves, and the Spartan offense fired off nine shots with four corner kick attempts.
  • The team stood strong, securing the 3-0 senior day victory with three different goal scorers.
