NORTON, Mass. – The Castleton women's soccer team fell at the hands of Wheaton (Mass.) on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 3-1 at Mirrione Stadium.

The Spartans fall to 0-3-1 on the season with the loss, while Wheaton, a team that finished last season as the No. 8 team in New England, is now a perfect 4-0 on the year.

Shelby McLenithan netted the only goal of the game for Castleton, while Jessica Binkowski made eight saves in goal.

Wheaton got out to an early lead, when Caren McCarthy scored just 7:50 into the contest on a shot from the right side of the net. Castleton answered just more than six minutes later, drawing the game even at 1-1 on a strike from McLenithan.

Late in the first half, the Lyons re-took the lead when Noelle Perciballi scored on a pass from McCarthy to make it 2-1 in favor of the hosts.

Many of the Spartans' attempts were turned away on the day, as the Wheaton defense blocked a number of shots to hold its lead. In the second half, Wheaton had a penalty kick chance that was originally saved by Binkowski, but the Lyons buried the rebound, when it found the back of the net off the foot of Megan Healy.

Wheaton held a 21-12 shot advantage in the contest, as well as a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

Castleton is back on the pitch tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. at Western New England.
