CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton women's soccer team had its two-game winning streak snapped on Sunday afternoon at the hands of No. 2 Williams, falling 8-0 at Spartan Stadium.

The loss drops the Spartans to 3-6-3 on the season, while Williams remains unbeaten at 8-0-1.

Jessica Binkowski stopped nine shots in the contest for Castleton. Alison Lu tallied a hat trick in the victory for Williams, while Kristi Kirshe had one goal and three assists.

Castleton had the first chance of the game, when Shelby McLenithan let go a right-footed shot at the edge of the box, but Williams's keeper Olivia Barnhill easily corralled the ball for her only save of the game. The Ephs controlled play for much of the first half, but strong play by Binkowski held Williams at bay temporarily.

In the 10th minute, Audrey Thomas got behind the defense with only the goalie to beat, but Binkowski came out and made a sliding save to rob Thomas of a goal and keep the game scoreless. The Williams offense found its first marker of the game in the 16th minute, when Katie Wardlaw finished in close on a rebound after Binkowski originally saved a teammate's shot.

The Ephs doubled their lead in the 27th minute, when Lu netted her sixth goal of the season on an assist from Kirshe. Lu wasn't finished, scoring again in the 32nd minute to make it 3-0 in favor of the visitors going into the halftime break.

The Williams attack was just as potent in the second stanza, scoring five more times in the final 45 minutes of action. Evan Gancedo tallied her first goal of the season when she found the back of the net unassisted in the 48th minute to make it a 4-0 contest. In the 55th minute, Natalie Turner-Wyatt fired a rocket from 30 yards out that, despite Binkowski getting a hand on it, found the upper-left corner of the goal.

The Ephs tacked on three goals in the final 10 minutes, scoring in the 81st minute and then twice in the 86th minute. Kirshe took a pass from Lu and slipped it under a sliding goalie to make it 6-0 before returning the favor by assisting on Lu's third goal of the game just five minutes later. Thomas's first goal of the season capped the game at 8-0 just 34 seconds after Lu's third goal.

Williams outshot the Spartans 24-4, including 17-1 on goal. The Ephs also held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks, while both teams committed six fouls.

Castleton is off until Saturday, Oct. 8, when it hosts the University of Maine-Farmington at 1 p.m.
