Spartans Held In Check at St. Joseph's

STANDISH, Maine– The Castleton University field hockey program fell to St. Joseph's College of Maine on Sunday afternoon, 5-0.

The loss drops the Spartans to 3-8 overall and 1-1 in the North Atlantic Conference East, while St. Joseph's moves to 4-5 on the season.

In a quiet first half, the Monks recorded the only goal over the first 35 minutes for St. Joseph's at the 13:47 mark to give the Monks the advantage going into halftime. 

Castleton tallied the first shots of the second half following a corner from Cydney Jeffrey. Senior Haley Spittle put one on goal from in front of the cage but could not get it past the Monks net minder. The Spartans tallied five shots in the second half, but were held in check on the afternoon as the Monks scored four more goals en route to the 5-0 win. 

Haley Spittle led the Spartans with three shots on goal. Freshman Tashia Pashby-Rockwood made her second career start in the cage for Castleton, tallying nine saves in 70 minutes of action. Pashby-Rockwood falls to 1-1 on the season following the loss. 

Castleton returns to action at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, when the Spartans travel to Rivier University for a matchup with the Raiders.
