Box Score SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Castleton's three-game winning streak was snapped this afternoon with a 3-1 defeat to the Union Dutchwomen at College Park Field.
Shelby McLenithan scored her second goal of the season and Mallory Costello tacked on an assist, as the Spartans were outshot 29-4 in the losing effort. Castleton now stands at 6-6 overall, while the Dutchwomen improve to 4-3-3 on the year.
At the 22:28 mark, McLenithan opened her scoring account to put the Spartans in front by one. Costello provided the service on the goal, as McLenithan slotted it home to give the away side an early 1-0 lead.
That advantage lasted just 11 minutes, however, before Katie Monahan brought the game back to level terms with her first score of the day. After Keriann Mackey put the Dutchwomen in front with a strike just before the break, Monahan sealed a 3-1 Union victory with an insurance goal in the waning minutes of play.
Kasie Wilk suffered the loss in her first career start for the Spartans after stopping 11 of the 14 shots that she faced. Erica Matteo, meanwhile, allowed just one goal with one save en route to capturing her fourth victory of the year.
Castleton returns to the pitch this weekend when it travels to Maine to faceoff with NAC opponents Maine-Farmington on Saturday at 12:30 pm and Thomas on Sunday at noon.
