Box Score 2 Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. – Castleton took to the road on Saturday and won its first match in straight sets, against Old Westbury, before dropping its second 3-0 against host Bard in Stevenson Athletic Center.
The Spartans started the day strong with a 25-13, 25-13, 25-17 victory over the Panthers to improve to 8-6 overall. They hit .222 in the match, with 36 kills, 35 digs and 12 aces.
Individually Amanda Chambers led the team with 13 kills, nine digs and two aces while hitting a team-high .370. Brittany Brayman added seven kills, eight digs and one ace while Michaela Babineau dished off a team-best 17 assists with three aces and four digs.
Against the host Raptors, the Spartans dropped the first set 25-14 and the second by a 25-15 margin. Castleton pushed Bard to the brink in the third and fought off match point five times before ultimately succumbing 28-26. The Spartans managed just 21 kills in the match but did record 53 digs while hitting .056.
Brayman anchored the defense with 14 digs, four kills and the team's lone ace while Kimberly Jackson added three kills and hit .222. Alex Madsen contributed nine assists and five digs while Chambers chipped in with 11 digs.
Castleton returns to action on Wednesday at 7 pm when the team hosts SUNY-Cobleskill in its Dig Pink match.
