KEENE, N.H. - The Vermont State Castleton Spartans were swept Wednesday evening by the Keene State Owls at Spaulding Gymnasium. The set scores were 17-25, 17-25, and 16-25. Castleton is now 7-10 and 0-5 in LEC play with the loss.
Castleton got out to a slow start in the first set but made it competitive late. They were tied 11-11 before the Owls pulled away in the second. The Spartans were still competitive in the third and had their fewest attack errors in any set with three, but Keene State proved to be too powerful and picked up the sweep.
Sam Ford (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and Lilli Burrows (Yarmouth, Maine) led the team in kills with seven each. Brianna Walsh (Austin, Texas) recorded 10 digs and had a couple of service aces, while Alondra Rojas (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) had 19 assists.
The Spartans are back home on Saturday for a tri-match against UMass Boston and Fisher College. They will play UMass Boston at 11 a.m. and Fisher at 3 p.m.
