Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Spartans gave up a pair of goals in the opening five minutes and couldn't keep up with Springfield as they fell 5-0 to the Pride on Wednesday afternoon.
Castleton was outshot 43-7 and recorded three corners to 16 for Springfield as the visitors dropped to 0-9 on the season. The Pride, meanwhile, received eight points from Olivia Cabral as they improved to 5-5 overall.
Cabral scored twice in the first three minutes for the early Springfield lead. The Pride added three more goals in then next 25 minutes to push the lead to 5-0 and go into the half up by five.
Springfield made it 6-0 in the 48th minute and sophomore goalie Meeghan Doris came off the bench and into the cage. She held the Pride scoreless over the next 12 minutes and at 59:56 Kristy Pinkham put Castleton on the board off an assist from Haley Spittle.
Just 30 seconds later Springfield responded with a goal to make it 7-1. The Pride added two more goals in the final 30 seconds for the final 9-1 margin.
Doris finished with eight saves in 22:43 while starter Jess Galatioto took the loss after allowing six goals and making nine saves in the first 47:17. Timarie Villa earned the win in net without making a save.
Castleton returns to action on Saturday when the team hosts New England College at 6 pm.
