Box Score STANDISH, Maine – Castleton gave up another early goal and wasn't able to mount a comeback as the team lost 6-1 to St. Joseph's on Sunday afternoon at Mercy Field.
The Spartans fell behind in the fourth minute and were never able to draw even again as they dropped to 0-8 on the season. The Monks outshot Castleton 29-3 in the contest and earned 15 penalty corners as they improved to 8-1 with the victory.
Kelsey Drummond opened the scoring in the fourth minute and Effie Drew made it 2-0 at 16:57.
The Spartans got on the board in the 21st minute. Haley Spittle fed a penalty corner to Kristy Pinkham and the senior put the shot into the back of the cage to cut the deficit to 2-1.
However, just three minutes later Dumond scored her second of the game and then Theresa Hendrix pushed the lead to 4-1 in the 27th minute.
St. Joseph's added two more goals in the second half to finish with the 6-1 victory.
Senior Jess Galatioto played the first half and made nine saves while allowing four goals, but took the loss. Sophomore Meeghan Doris played the final 35 minutes and made six saves while allowing two goals. Emma Astbury didn't make a save as she improved to 6-1 on the year.
Castleton returns to action on Wednesday when the team plays at Springfield at 4 pm.
