CASTLETON, Vt. – Both teams had chances but neither was able to find the back of the net in 110 minutes of action as Castleton and New England College played to a 0-0 double overtime draw in North Atlantic Conference action on Tuesday night at Spartan Stadium.

This marks the first tie for either team this season, as Castleton moves to 7-6-1 and 4-1-1 in conference play now. The Pilgrims, meanwhile, go to 9-5-1 and 2-2-1 in the NAC. The Spartans outshot the NEC 19-12 in the contest and recorded eight corners to just three for the Pilgrims.

The first half was back and forth with each team creating a few opportunities. NEC's best chance came in the eighth minute as Jessica Barnum ripped a shot from 30 yards out that was directed to the top corner. Binkowski read the ball and knocked it off the crossbar and out of harms way.

Later in the period Castleton had its own good chance as Mallory Costello received a through ball and looked to have a breakaway. However, Tricia Sardagnola charged on the ball and kicked it away before Costello could control it. The Spartans had a good chance just nine minutes into the second half as Sarah Carlson sent the corner to the middle of the six and Costello's header went just wide of the net.

NEC went on the offensive and nearly took the lead a minute later. The Pilgrims sent a bouncing ball into the box and Binkowski charged the ball but Jaycie Triandafilou beat her to it and got her head on the ball. However, Jessica Binkowski was able to get a piece of the header and then deflect it away.

The Pilgrims nearly broke the draw in the 80th minute. Triandafilou took possession of the ball just outside the 18 and dished it over Lauren Smith inside the far corner of the 18. She took a dribble with only Binkowski to beat, but her shot went high over the crossbar.

In the opening five minutes of the first overtime Castleton had a pair of shots from outside the 18 that went on net, but Sardagnola handled them easily. The Spartans had a few other chances, including shot form Carlson with 15 seconds left from the top of the 18, but it was blocked by a defender.

With less than two minutes remaining the Pilgrims nearly won the game, as the ball was sent into the box and Binkowski went to field it but was knocked off away. Triandafilou then attempted an off-balance shot, but Sanders deflected it away from the goal and out of bounds.

Sardagnola finished with 12 saves in the contest while Binkowski made two stops.

The Spartans return to action on Saturday when they travel to face Green Mountain at 1:30 pm.
